Mindfulness in Schools

I offer the fantastic Mindfulness in Schools Project (MiSP) curricula, which cover ages 3 to 18 with four different curricula for pupils and an adult curriculum for school staff and parents. MiSP have mapped their courses onto PSHE curricula, supporting school teachers and leaders to easily identify how learning from the mindfulness classes overlaps with, and enhances, PSHE learning. MiSP have developed a pathway to support schools to embed mindfulness within their school community, with the possibility to become a beacon school for mindfulness.

I have been teaching mindfulness in schools since 2015 and have worked with around 20 schools to introduce mindfulness into their school.

Below you can find more information on what I offer. Please get in touch to discuss which approach might work best for your school.

FAQs

  • Absolutely. The .b Foundations Taster Session for school staff has been designed as a stand-alone session, giving staff a stimulating and experiential first introduction to mindfulness. The taster session works well as a staff training during an INSET day. It is helpful for the whole staff team to attend, particularly if you are considering introducing mindfulness to pupils, so that all staff have an understanding of what mindfulness is, and it can also give an indication of whether there is enough interest to run a course for staff.

  • Either option can work well. Introducing mindfulness to pupils first using a mindfulness teacher external to the school is a lower cost initial option and will give you a good indication of how your pupils respond to the lessons. Training staff is a bigger investment but will mean that staff can go on to train to teach pupils, creating a more sustainable and economical model longer term. Either way, a taster session for staff is a great first step. We can talk through these options in more depth together to clarify your aims around introducing mindfulness in your school.

  • I offer refresher sessions for pupils and staff, regular practice groups, retreat days for staff, and supervision for anyone teaching mindfulness within the school. Exactly what shape each of these options takes can be adapted to suit the needs of your school.

  • It is useful to think of the whole school community when aiming to embed mindfulness. This includes the senior leadership team, school staff, pupils right through the school, and parents. Depending on budget, this can take different forms. It is useful for all staff to have some understanding of what mindfulness is, which can be achieved with a staff taster session, and those with a particular interest can choose to become more involved. Over time, teachers and school staff can help pupils to make links between what they are learning within their mindfulness lessons and their activities across the rest of the school day and week. I can support staff to do this, for example, through mentoring and printed resources.

  • Costs will depend on exactly which approach we decide is best for your school, as there are many areas of flexibility within the courses and extra support on offer. Once we have had a meeting to discuss your exact needs, I will provide quotes for all the possibilities discussed. I can also support with funding ideas and applications.
